A word in season

“Dandelion” by Jean Tan

A dear friend of ours, local singer-songwriter Jean Tan, writes songs that heals and nourishes the mind and heart. In a series of interesting conversations we had about the floaty dandelion, Jean discovered that the name “dandelion” means lion’s tooth. How amazing it was that a seemingly fragile plant wore a name that spoke such power and strength.

Her song “Dandelion” speaks resonantly of the tension between the ups and downs. But more so, of embracing yourself, celebrating your small successes and keeping hope alive.

May this song “Dandelion” be a word in season for you.

Dandelion by Jean Tan

I’ve been going round
Round this merry way
Trying to make everything work out
Two steps forward three steps back
Toss and turn all day
Never know if I have what it takes
And as, as I try
To reach for gold, to let it go
The dandelion breathes
A word in season to my soul
In the end it will be alright
I know it’s hard but good things take time
It’ll be more than you imagined
More than you have seen
So run along and do your thing you’re just fine
Time stands still in the waiting
But time moves on as though you are
And as, as I try
To reach for gold, to let it go
The dandelion breathes
A word in season to my soul
In the end it will be alright
I know it’s hard but good things take time
It’ll be more than you’d imagined
More than you have seen
So run along and do your thing you’re just fine
You know the fire in the wait —
It only breaks these chains
So you can sail away
Don’t let the fight get in the way
Don’t be so hard on your mistakes
You’ll find your story someday
